Couch Potato to 5K

Since I’m now down to a weight where I’m more comfortable running, I’ve decided to set a goal to run a 5K race in the spring. You have to understand - this is a HUGE goal for me. Previously, I always joked that the only way I’d run is if I was being chased, and there was actually a lot of truth in it. Now I’m feeling like it’s an attainable yet challenging goal.

My daughter’s school has a 5K every spring to memorialize their previous principal, who passed away after a long battle with cancer. It’s a great way to celebrate her life and raise money for a good cause (Susan G. Komen Foundation).

So I decided back in August that I needed to start training. After several web searches, I found a great site at www.coolrunning.com, and they have a Couch Potato to 5K training plan that has really worked for me. I’m in week 6 of the 9-week plan (okay, I spent a couple of weeks on some of the steps, but oh well). I know I’ll be done with the plan long before the 5K comes in the spring, but this way I know I’ll be ready. Try it out and let me know how it’s working for you!

1 Corinthians 9:24 - Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.
