Changed gyms this week

Why is it such a hard thing to change gyms? You’d think it would be easy - the equipment’s pretty much the same, the hours are the same (at least they are for my purposes), the staff is nice, the lockers are clean, etc. The only real reason I made the switch is because it’s closer to my house and it’s cheaper - I feel like I’m being a better steward of my money by going to this new center. So why was it a tough decision? Because of the people there - those ‘crazies’ who get to the gym at 5:00 in the morning, because they know, like me, that if they don’t go then, they won’t go at all. There was a sort of camaraderie, kinship really, and the conversations we had after we had finished and were getting ready for our separate days, while never really deep or intellectual, were real, and honest, and just plain fun.

  • Norm - good luck on the training for the half-marathon; I can’t believe you have to start already for something that’s happening so late in the year;
  • Mike - Thank you for all you do to support our troops once they get back to the states. Your job of helping guys through their emotional baggage after being back is not one I would sign up for, but I’m glad they’ve got someone like you to help them.
  • Jim - I hope that when I’m 92 years old, I’ll still have a smile and a ‘What, are you done already?’ for some young guy I pass in the hallway.
  • So I’ll miss you guys, and you’ll be in my thoughts and prayers - really.
