I’m going to turn the tables and ask for some advice from my readers. Over the past month or so, I’ve hit a plateau - my weight has remained stable at around 217, which isn’t bad compared to where I’ve been, but isn’t where I need to be. I’ve been reading other blogs, and asking people at the gym for advice, and here’s what I’ve gotten:
- You need to increase your cardio, and decrease your resistance/weight training - you need to sweat more (and I thought I was sweating quite a bit, even through the resistance training).
- You need to increase your weight training, and decrease your cardio - you’ll build more muscle, which in turn will need more fuel, so you’ll lose weight faster.
- Keep your calorie intake the same, but increase the carbs and decrease the fat - you need to shock your body since it’s been off carbs for so long.
- Continue to keep off carbs, but increase your fat intake, and take in less protein - your body is using the protein for fuel first, and is therefore increasing your muscle weight.
Confusing, huh? Seemingly contradictory advice, yet each person says that it has worked for them to help crash through the plateau and continue the weight loss. I guess the takeaway for me is that each person is different, and each situation is different, and each choice will bring about different results in different people - that’s part of the joy of God creating each of us uniquely, I guess.
So what’s your advice? If you’ve ever hit a plateau, what worked for you to bust through it? Comment back and I’ll post your answers.
