New workout kicked my tail….
In order to keep my exercise from getting boring and routine, I’ve been advised to change my workout every four to six weeks. Not only does this keep my mind from getting bored, it shakes up my muscle groups, too, and helps ensure I’m seeing maximum growth. I have to say, I was a little fearful of this most recent change, because the new routine looked to be pretty intense.
This morning I started the ‘Fat Loss III’ routine from New Rules of Lifting: Six Basic Moves for Maximum Muscle, and man, I am feeling it! The previous routine, Fat Loss II, was comprised of supersets of 2 alternating exercises, 3 sets of 8-12 reps each, with 30-60 seconds of rest in between each superset. For Fat Loss III, they’re called ‘giant sets’ - 4 exercises of 10-12 reps each, done in rapid succession with no rest between. When the four exercises are done, rest for 60 seconds then start them all over again, for a total of 4 giant sets.
By the end of set 1, I was dripping in sweat, and I still had 3 sets to go of that giant set! I also had another giant set of 4 exercises, plus an abs exercise. By the end, it took all my strength to even walk up the stairs to the locker room. To risk being too cliche, it was a good tired - I was wiped, but I knew that I’d given it my all. I also know that this hard work WILL pay off - I just have to be patient.
Are you doing anything in your life right now that’s difficult, or are there any circumstances in your life that are challenging you? If so, my challenge to you this week is to take a look at that situation in light of what you can learn from it, or how you can grow from it, and ask the Lord to show that to you clearly this week.
Have a great week!
