What is your WalkScore?
Man, what is happening with gas prices? I know I’m going to sound like an old guy here, but I remember when we paid $1.25 a gallon, and today I paid $3.75! It’s really got me thinking twice about when I drive, and how often, and whether I have an alternative like riding my bike or walking.
In fact, it’s got other people thinking about it, too. In Watercooler Wednesday on Randy Elrod’s blog today, he points to a website called WalkScore, where you can enter your address and get back a score out of 100 based on how walkable the neighborhood is; in other words, how easy is it to get to food, entertainment, schools, etc., on foot rather than in a car. My address scored a 62 out of 100 - not bad, but not the greatest either. Just comes with living in the suburbs, I guess.
Walking not only saves on gas, it’s a great form of cardio exercise, and should be part of your routine for maintaining a healthy weight. What does your address score?
