And Can It Be….
We sang this hymn this morning in church, or rather, a version of it based on Glad’s arrangement from The Acapella Project CD. I have always loved this hymn by Charles Wesley, but the words can be difficult to follow, especially when they’re going by quickly and you don’t have time to absorb them. So for today, when you read through the original hymn and then the paraphrase, consider the great gift that Christ gave to us by taking on our sin on the cross and dying in our place. What amazing love that is!

| Is it really true? Does Jesus my Savior really love me that much?I caused Him so much pain, yet He died for me.
He went after death, just for me.
What amazing love! Jesus died for me! Can that really be true? |
And can it be that I should gainan interest in the Savior’s blood!
Died he for me? who caused his pain! For me? who him to death pursued? Amazing love! How can it be that thou, my God, shouldst die for me? Amazing love! How can it be that thou, my God, shouldst die for me?

| He had infinite freedom and grace, and yet He chose to leave His father in heaven.He bled for the sins of Adam & all who came after him (including me) - the only thing left in Him was His love for us.
What immense mercy You have, Jesus! I know this because it was directed at me.
What amazing love! Jesus died for me! Can that really be true? |
He left his Father’s throne above(so free, so infinite his grace!),
emptied himself of all but love, and bled for Adam’s helpless race. ‘Tis mercy all, immense and free, for O my God, it found out me!
Amazing love! How can it be that thou, my God, shouldst die for me?

| I don’t fear death and condemnation anymore; everything Jesus did was for my sake!I’m clothed in righteousness now, because I’m alive in Jesus, and He is my leader.
I can approach the throne of God boldly and claim my reward, all because I follow Christ and believe in His sacrifice for me.
What amazing love! Jesus died for me! Can that really be true? |
No condemnation now I dread;Jesus, and all in him, is mine;
alive in him, my living Head, and clothed in righteousness divine, bold I approach th’ eternal throne, and claim the crown, through Christ my own.
Amazing love! How can it be that thou, my God, shouldst die for me?
