Let the Games Begin!
We just finished watching the opening ceremonies for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. What a spectacle! We all said we need to go back to several places and look at the recording, because we’re still not sure how they did created some of the effects. Obviously, the ceremonies were designed to put China in the best light as possible, and I think they accomplished that.
However, it’s important to note that China is not an open nation as it relates to Christianity. While the Chinese government allows for the practice of Christianity (as long as it is done under the auspices of the state-controlled churches), the evangelical Christian church in China is a persecuted church, usually meeting in secret, with severe penalties for those caught trying to share Christ with others.
So for the next 16 days, and beyond that for that matter, pray that the persecuted church in China will fully sense the love that God has for them, and also pray for a miracle of the Chinese government allowing the free worship of God.
