This is my first foray into blogging, so please be patient.
I was talking with a friend of mine recently, and lamenting the fact that, while I’ve found a lot of websites related to supporting Christians with their weight loss objectives, they all seem to be geared to women, or at least most of the postings are by women. In my opinion, guys go about weight loss differently - there’s a different type of accountability involved than just ’sharing your feelings about that piece of chocolate you just ate.’
Guys are more like:
“You said you were gonna lose 2 pounds this week, and get to the gym at least twice. Didja?”
“No, but…”
“Hey, don’t give me that - just suck it up and do it….”
Okay, while that might be a bit on the extreme side, you know what I mean - guys want encouragement, they just don’t want to be all touchy-feely about it. Guys want to know there are other guys out there, pulling for them, cheering them on, and calling them out when they haven’t lived up to expectations.
The other thing that is missing from a lot of health & diet support pages is a Christian perspective. I’ve recently come to the realization that God didn’t call me to lose weight because He wants me to have a washboard abs and legs like tree trunks - he’s called me to be in the best health possible because:
1 Corinthians 6:19-20: Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.
It’s when I realized that I had been treating my body more like a run-down shack than a temple, and that my previous health habits weren’t honoring to him, that I really got serious about changing the way I was living in terms of my health.
It’s my hope that this site will be a great support to men in reaching both their physical and spiritual goals. I’ll do my best to keep the site updated with lots of new content and comments, and you all help me along with your feedback. Deal? Deal.
